On October 6, 2004, the owners of Irv's Burgers, concerned citizens and the developers of the location appeared before the West Hollywood City Council to discuss Irv's Burgers future.  Although there was strong support to keep the stand intact, the City has been unable to alter the permits for development for this space, which would thereby preserve the heritage of Irv's Burgers.
As friends and customers gathered at the burger stand to discuss options, a group spontaneously formed to offer support to the Hongs, current owners of Irv's.  The adhoc group named themselves the Burger Brigade and pledged to make every effort to save the business and original site of Irv's Burgers, standing since 1950.

The mission of the Burger Brigade is to raise public awareness about the future of a beloved and family-owned community restaurant that serves as a local architectural and cultural landmark.  Through continuing education and support of this project, the Burger Brigade seeks to preserve West Hollywood's unique color and individuality.  By saving the existing business and space, supporters would ensure a vital link to Route 66 history, preserve one of last remaining examples of the post WWII American roadhouse and continue the ever-growing need for conservancy in Los Angeles.
